Guide
How to play
Fun Libs is a word game where you build a story without knowing what it says.
- Pick a story. Choose any story from the list. The title is all you see; the story itself stays hidden.
- Fill in the blanks. You’re asked for one word at a time, like an adjective, an animal or a verb ending in -ing. Type the first word that comes to mind.
- Read your story. When every blank is filled, your words are dropped into the story and highlighted. Read it out loud for the best effect.
- Share it or play again. Share the story link so a friend can play the same story with their own words, or play it again for a completely different result.
Word types
Each blank asks for a kind of word. If you’re not sure, the hint under the prompt explains it, and the wand button suggests a random word.
- Noun: a thing you can see or touch, like a toaster.
- Plural noun: more than one thing, like trumpets.
- Adjective: a describing word, like slimy.
- Verb: an action, like dance. Verb -ing is the same with -ing on the end: dancing.
- Adverb: how something is done, like loudly.
Party mode
Playing with others? Choose Play with friends on any story, add everyone’s names and pick how many words each person fills in per turn. Pass the device around when it tells you to. At the end, every word is highlighted in the color of the player who wrote it.
Write your own
Anyone with a free account can write a story. Put each blank in brackets, like (Adjective) or (Animal). Number a blank, like (Name 1), to use the same answer more than once. Read our guide on how to write a fill-in-the-blank story.
